Bernard Sun


Bernard Sun, Corporate Beverage Director for Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s four-star restaurant group, is one of the country’s most respected sommeliers. He oversees the beverage programs at all twelve Jean-Georges restaurants, from Shanghai to New York – composing wine lists, creating cocktails, training staff and managing the financials. Sun’s passion for wine has been his focus throughout his career. Before joining Jean-Georges in January of 2005, he was sommelier at Gray Kunz’s four-star Lespinasse, Sirio Maccioni’s famed Le Cirque 2000, and Drew Nieporent’s legendary Montrachet. The recipient of the 2010 James Beard Foundation Award for Best Wine Service, as well as the 2010 BCA Global Vision in Wine Award, Sun also makes wine in Napa and the Willamette Valley under his III Somms label. He has been quoted and featured in publications including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Wine Spectator, Wine & Spirits, Beverage Media, GQ and Food & Wine.

André Compeyre has an endless curiosity and his passion for serving extraordinary and good value wines comes through Benoit. Originally from Toulouse, his different journeys have fostered this passion, deepening his experience with rare vintages and the magic of the right pairing between wine and cuisine. At Benoit, he created a “Secrets de Cave” reserve list which includes rare Burgundy and California verticals, not often seen at restaurants, let alone at bistros. The Napa Technology system enables André to offer wines by the ounce from famed producers such as Pétrus and Château d’Yquem. He also features a regularly updated “Top Pours” selection offering guests exceptional wines at very competitive prices. In June 2012 he received Best Sommelier of Languedoc-Roussillon Award at the Sud de France New York Festival.
